Panama is the perfect place for ecotourism and ethno-tourism today
Panama has some of the world's most accessible and bio diverse tropical forests, home to hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife. The country has seven unique indigenous groups, most of which encourage tourism and intercultural exchange. World-class bird watching and indigenous villages are less than an hour from your hotel in Panama City.
Panama uses the American dollar
Panama mints its own coins but uses the American dollar (called the Balboa). Credit cards are accepted at hotels, most stores and better restaurants throughout the country. US$100 bills are not usually welcome in restaurants and stores.
Panama is easy to get to
American Airlines, Delta, Continental and Copa (the national airline) all fly to Panama City from North America, with nonstop flights from Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami (just 2 ½ hours), Los Angeles and New York. Iberia flies from Madrid and KLM from Amsterdam.
